Three Steps on the Road to Your Why

I love this topic of finding our ‘why’ or as we all know it as our purpose! Why? Because everyone has a purpose for why they exist. Your purpose has been destined before the beginning of time for Jeremiah 1:1 reminds us, ""Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you.." Even though this particular passage refers to the prophet Jeremiah, it applies to us. God is the same God today that He was back then. He formed you and gave you life to live out purpose. We all have a reason that is often bigger than what we think or believe about ourselves. In the past couple of years, God has truly blown my mind as I continue to navigate the road of purpose.

If you’re feeling a little stuck in figuring out the purpose of your idea, your business, your book or finding your purpose at all, check out these few steps to help you along the way.

  1. Pray. I can't stress this enough in everything we do. I have received my best strategies in prayer. I have received confirmation from God during prayer. I have received insight during prayer. Praying is the way to get the green light to move forward with your plans. Be reminded that God's plan overrides all of yours. Pursue God ideas and not just good ideas (upcoming blog). Remember to seek Him in all you do, asking Him in faith for guidance of finding your 'why'.

  2. Reflect on your gifts & talents. God has made us unique. While we may have the same gifts and talents, your way of executing and who you are called to reach is different from someone else. The assignment on your life is attached to a specific set of people. What are areas that you are good at? Are people coming to you for encouragement or specific products/services? Reflect on your gifts and talents, make a list of those areas, and you'll be sure to find your purpose jewels on the list.

  3. Impact is your portion. You will have impact in your business, through your book, or whatever is a part of your purpose. What outcomes are you wanting others to receive as a direct result of their connection with you? Think about what others say about you now or why others come to you. If you haven't already, come up with a personal mission statement. Here is an example of one statement: "To use my gifts to bring education to women around the globe." Whatever you do, live out your mission daily and you'll be sure to have impact.

  4. Bonus: Get in a habit of writing things down. Did someone say notebook. This notebook queen loves a good notebook and finds every reason to buy a new one. Start a notebook of things you love, ideas you want to pursue or journaling notes. Use this notebook to do some brainstorming. Research a brainstorming strategy. Get your ideas on paper and out of your head. Date things so that you can go back and check off progress.

We all have a reason that is often bigger than what we think or believe about ourselves.

Smile on the journey of discovering your 'why' OR continuing to pursue your why. Be encouraged and not discouraged no matter where you are on the road. Most importantly, trust God and get ready for all that God has in store for you!
